Pre-Paid Electric Meter
19 Answers
not sure if this belongs here, plus it's not really a question.
We have pre-pay leccy meter, always have bought in increments of £5, never knew until today, that you you top up by £6 or whatever.
Just thought I'd share.

what you want to share is:
pre paid leccy is v v expensive
and so you pay to 'know where you are'
like pay a lot
so everyone on leccy meters should be trying to get onto the old system (much cheaper)
THAT is what you wanted to share.
I think you may be sharing also if you take over someone's key
and they are in debt to the leccy, then £5 may only give £4 leccy, as a proportion goes to relieve the debt

but PP if you live in a rented house and the landlord has already put the meter system in, then you can't change it, and its not for want of trying trust me.......
I have spoken to my landlord about it and whilst he agrees i am an excellent tenant and that he would not be liable for any unpaid bill by myself he is not exposing himself to the risk

McF you are being ***+ed
I am landlord and have no control over meters - tenants move out,
and I find a meter has been changed without my knowledge because the incumbent has got themselves into debt. - and then later done a runner etc
You should be changed back because you are right you are not responsible for elec consumed by your predecessor and neither is your landlord - and their payment history is nothing to do with your payment history. The slowness to change is due to the profits pre paid meters rake in.
