Did you know that crispy seaweed that you get from the Chinese takeaway is not actually seaweed...it's cabbage!!

I feel cheated. But after the horse-meat scandal perhaps I shouldn't be surprised.

The web of deceit grows bigger!!!
I knew that too, it's pak choi I think.
Something fishy about Bombay Duck...
Yes I knew that, but I still like it.

Have tasted the genuine article on various visits to Asia Pacific countries and it tastes completely different, but it's still nice.
It's kale I think.

My aunty's best mates parents ran a Chinese takeaway so I've always known what it is.
I think it's fairly well known.

It's the shredded pork they pop on top that you want anyway - that's the good stuff :)
Wonder who translated cabbage as seaweed? Not someone in marketing; offer someone laver bread and tell them that it's seaweed and they instantly turn their noses up at it. Bombay duck is easier to explain; it's the British and foreign languages (Flushing for Vlissingen etc). Duck was 'tak'.

I always thought I was being brave by trying seaweed.

We didn't have much in the way of foreign / exotic food when I was young. Mum wouldn't have pasta in the house as it reminded her of being force-fed tinned spagetti by the nuns in the convent during the war. Curry came in a vesta packet.
On the plus side we always had 3 types of sausage for Sunday breakfast: links, square and round.

Mustn't get Wolf onto the subject of our mums culinary habits.....
I chomped into one of the carved carrots in our local Chinese and it turned out to be made of wax. Barstewards.
tinned pasta is the devils work
McM, you always make me laugh x
I had no idea either, andrew!

Mr P will be gutted. He's only just discovered crispy seaweed, and is fair chuffed with himself (and the kids) for liking it so much.
I remember being at a friend s house and bring Fed tinned macaroni in chess sauce. I thought it was dead posh.

Mum could make really good soups, mince based meals and stews. She excelled at all of these.

I remember her once made a Vests curry - she said that she had added a tub of curry powder to spice it up. :-( :-)

I thought crispy seaweed was seaweed. However I used to think that there was beef in beefburgers.

Excuse the obvious errors in the. above text. Why can't the Kindle just use the words that I type instead of changing them. Stupid fekkin machine.
