Thanks for the help, I had a whole list of blood tests done and this was the only one for which I am being rechecked. Not sure where any inflammation might be except I have a Bakers cyst and a lot of fluid round the knee but GP not convinced that has anything to do with it. But then again she hasn't seen my knee recently.
This is a rather non-specific test with minimal diagnostic value.
It is used mainly to assess the effectiveness of a particular treatment, i.e if the ESR is falling, the treatment is working.
All a raised ESR does is to tell you that something may be going on.....it doesn't tell you what.
E.S.R ..Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate.
Anything above 40+ is a bit "dodgy.
