Network monitoring in Windows XP
4 Answers
Does anyone know of a network monitoring program for Windows XP, that keeps track of my shared files over a LAN/ which file that is currently opened by another computer etc?
I remember Win98 had an utility for this, that monitored open network connections and open files, but as far as I can see, WinXP does not have this utility included.
Thanks in advance.

start the microsoft management console (start>run>enter mmc(press return)
File Add/Remove snap-in... (Ctrl+M)
Click the Add button
browse the list and select Shared Folders (it near the bottom)
on the next screen you can select which computer you wish to monitor. you are probably doing local so just click finish.
click close and ok
you should now see shared folders in the mmc window
inside there is shares/sessions/and open files
now do file>save as and save it in the administrative tools folder. It will now appear under the administrative tools entry in your start menu.
