I wonder where the inclination came from, if it has not always been this way?

I would suggest that rivers don't stink as much as they did 100 years ago, so that would be one factor - I wonder if there's a cultural connection?

Nope, not a chance, for that kind of money i'd want something with land which means there's no one living near me for miles and miles.

not just Britain, though, I remember visiting harbour redevelopments in Melbourne and Cape Town in the 90s, and there were lots more worldwide. Partly because the ports weren't used much for shipping as everyone went over to containers. But there was a 20+ year gap between the land being abandoned and people deciding they wanted to live there.

I could've had Canary Wharf for 98p but I'd just spent my last pennies tipping the guide on the boat.

jno, the Thames side developments, are hideous, designed and built by people on hallucinogenic drugs. They may go for a lot of money, we have some lego brick buildings around our way going for 2.5 million apiece, disastrous, ugly and not worth tuppence.

We have holidayed in Sandbanks (rented of course) in the 1990's. I never understood the reason for the sky-high prices of property there and still don't. Quite ordinary place with a few small shops (then). Dead as a
doornail at night.
OK for scouting fanatics with ferry to Brownsea Island but why not drive there from anywhere?
My ideals if rich enough Bayswater/Lancaster Gate area of London; New York overlooking Central Park; much cheaper though is Formby to Southport stretch of Liverpool. All of these are great cultural cities for evenings out.

OK em10, muse-house in a square off the Edgeware Road? No need for a car in London or NY. I'm not anti-arab anyway - have met worse whites. We Brits luv litter-strewn streets, unlike you and me of course!

if i had millions i would move, out of the rats nest that has become the capital i once loved,
Zehul called it Gotham City, not quite, but the squillions of poor and the seriously seriously rich are going to have to fight it out. Local authorities are ripping the rule books up on housing, either not building much social housing, and any teeny space that you could plonk a bidet on they will build a mansion.
