These things are rarely worth what people think and the provenance, the proven and certain connection with the celebrity, is often doubtful. And a lot depends on who it is. Elvis Presley's hat would fetch plenty; a lock of hair or a cancelled cheque of his is worth money. Can't think that Guiness is anywhere remotely near a saleable name like that. The hat would have added value if it was worn in a famous film of his or was of a design which was like his trademark, something which was distinctively worn by him, like Tony Hancock's homburg.
Hello Caran, sorry, only just seen this. That asking price is ridiculous. The US ebay site asks stupid prices for Alec Guinness stuff too. However, I've picked up some bargains for my collection on the British ebay site, as bidders are quite stingy! There was a coat of Alec's for sale once. They wanted £500 for it. I would have bought that, but it was 'pick up only' and they lived in Cambridge.
