And my niece graduates next month with a 2:1. I'm proud of her and was wondering how much would make a suitable graduation present?

Hmmmmmm, history and english. National trust/ english heritage membership? A piece of silver by a female silversmith (I would suggest someone like Dorothy Langlands or hester Bateman).

If she likes wine, a membership of the Wine Society - don't think you need a nomination now, but if so, we can arrange offline. Plus some nice champagne or red wine....
Otherwise the silver is a nice idea or something custom made, like a tree root gripping some pyrites.
What is she going to do with the degree?

A bit of Hester Bateman silver looks just the thing. Her dates, 1708-1794, cover a period that couldn't be anything less than interesting to a historian. And the fact that she ran a successful business at a time when the glass ceiling for a woman would have been considerably lower than it is now, is another plus.
