What Has Happened To Gp Receptionists.

Went to see GP today and was directed to sign in via a touch screen computer. As I waited I watched at least 12 people sign in using this method and wondered what state the computer was in after a full day. I know that my tablet gets filthy and I am the only one using it.
What has happened to the receptionist who welcomed you to the surgery and advised you of waiting times etc. It all seems so impersonal now.

What I would like to know is why receptionists are always female it seems sexist to me is it so that men can have something nice to look at while they are waiting? If so things have not progressed for women in 50 years there should be male receptionists that would advance things into 2013 most receptionists I deal with think they have arrived because they are in that job and most of them are so far up their own backside it is amazing they can get their head out of it to answer the phone !!

I book my appointments on-line now, except for blood tests when I have to ring in to book a practice nurse. We had a really stroppy receptionist but she left after being 'advised' about her unhelpful attitude. The last time I visited the screen was out of order.

We haven't got a touch screen in our surgery yet, but I'd be happy to use one if necessary.
I must be very lucky - our practices' receptionists are all really nice - they know me by name as I've had to spend rather a lot of time visiting them recently and it is so nice to have pleasant, friendly people to deal with, but when I lived in London it was murder trying to get an appointment to see any of the doctors, but particularly the senior partner, who I was registered with - a wait of about 2 weeks was normal, which I think is really bad. The senior receptionist was a bossy, unhelpful cow who was unpleasant to patients and her co-workers. Down here I can almost always get an appointment within 48 hours. I also lived in Devon for a year, and the local practice receptionists were very helpful there too. I must just have been lucky.

no, they are around, My own surgery is lovely and I bless my late Mum's surgery and all the staff who were so good to her.
