Acer Aspire E1-571 Laptop Problem

My son bought this a few days ago and thanks to my 'help' it's not working! The cursor is ok, but you cannot Sign Off via the right hand corner - and the tiles, though moving are unresponsive.

I can select the hidden icons on the right (search, share, start, settings), but again tapping the touch pad they don't work. Please help as I feel dreadful messing this up!

Cetti.....Please Do Not feel dreadful. If it's the machine I think it is, it will be loaded with Windows 8 and I am yet to hear of anyone who has not had problems with W 8.

Sorry I am unable to offer a solution but am hoping that there is an ABer who will come forward with a suggestion or two.

I am not sure if the touch pad is the problem or windows 8.
If you have a USB mouse to hand, try plugging that in and see if it works any better. I so then try re-installing the touch pad driver.
If not, get back to us.

Thank you all for your answers - but I feel even more stupid now....and hate windows 8 even more!

We took the laptop back to PC World, who looked at it and said there was nothing wrong with it. Apparently, it was updating, which renders the touchpad inoperable amongst other things!

Well, I haven't come across that before.
I have Windows 8 on my desktop and I really like it. Having said that, it is a bit of a pain on laptops. Not very touch pad friendly.

I often wonder how much salespersons know about the products they are selling, because they will sometimes say anything which might sound reasonable to a customer.

Anyway, are things now allright with your son's lappy because Acer is a really good brand.

I couldn't agree more Alston, especially if the customer is new to laptops and Windows 8....!
