That things aren't built to last anymore yet while drying my hair earlier I realised I was still using a hairdryer that I bought in 1986!!
Last year I reluctantly had to buy a brand new washing machine after my 17 year old Hoover make went kaput. The repair guy said that the cost to repair it it would be cheaper to buy a new one. :(

Touch wood, I have had 3 washing machines in the last 10 years all hotpoint, When my nan died I had her zanussi washing machine it is now 14 years old and still going strong,
josaphine32, my wife and I (married since 1964) have also found that Zanussi washing machines last very well.
I just checked the time with my watch and it's 9:42am. The pocket watch was made in 1893!...Pretty good for an oldie, eh?
I was thinking about this earlier today. When I bought my washing machine 2 years ago (paid about £450) the salesman tried to badger me into taking out an extended warranty on it at £6 per month. That's £72 per year or £720 over 10 years. My mother has had her washing machine for about 15 years and never had anything go wrong with it and since she didn't take out an additional warranty, she's saved herself buying it again nearly 3 times over!

I remember the Salesman telling me that if anything went wrong with it I wouldn't be covered, to which I replied, "If it goes t!ts up in the near future I've paid a vast sum of money for a dodgy appliance and I'll be wanting my money back."
I am still using my late mother-in-laws hand mixer, I have no idea how old it is but it is either made of metal and bakelite or some very old hard plastic, and the model is a sunbeam mixmaster junior. It works far better than any other mixer I have tried, in fact I have just given away a food processor because it isn't as good. My mother-in-law would have been delighted and amazed that it mixed my husbands 60th birthday cake last month, and it is showing no sign of giving up.
I bought a 'folding brownie' camera from a charity shop for a fiver last week.
Everything on it works just fine and this little beastie was made in the late 1930s! (photo available on request)
try buying an old car, though, from the days when engineering tolerances were measured in feet rather than microns...
There are plenty of Merc 190s still going strong!
My ironing board was a wedding present in 1964, likewise my casserole dishes and some old blankets I keep (more for sentimental reasons). Had to get rid of my old fridge (30 years old) when I had a new kitchen fitted. Like losing an old friend.
My YSL suit from 1983 still looks good on me today.
AP - Nice camera and a bargain. Can you still get film for it?
