34 Weeks Pregnant And Baby Has Stopped Growing.
17 Answers
Not me, daughter, she went to see her midwife today, the midwife said the baby has not grown since her last appointment, heart beat and movements still strong, a scan is being arranged in the next forty eight hours, also protein in her water. Anybody here had experience of this and please what can I say to keep her calm. Thank you.

The good sign is that the heart beat and movements are still strong and a scan will rule out any abnormality of the foetus.
The question to be answered is....should we now deliver the baby by Caesarian, or wait?
Tell her that this is not an uncommon situation and the delivery of a live healthy baby is almost certain.
No...I have not had personal experience.;-)
Have you had your operation yet?

The same thing happened to me Traci, I knew myself that my bump hadn't got bigger for a while and at 32 weeks mentioned it to my GP, who was very dismissive. At a 36 week hospital appointment I explained my concern to the consultant who scanned me and it was discovered baby had stopped growing and although I was 36 weeks, baby was only the size of 28 week foetus - following a tracing which should baby in a lot of distress I had an emergency c section and thankfully delivered a healthy 3lb 8oz baby but I dread to think what would have happened had I not voiced my concerns. I would strongly advise you daughter to insist on a heart tracing for the baby and if that and the scan prove normal then she can relax and enjoy the rest of her pregnancy.
Yes. My daughter stopped growing at about 30 weeks 'apparently'. I went for scans that confirmed she was on the small side. I was monitored weekly, scanned weekly and had to fill out daily kick charts.
She arrived weighing 7lb 14oz!!!
When I was pregnant with my son they expressed concern about his size. I politely told them to bog off.

Thank you Sqad and April, she was told a while back she was looking at a 10lb ish weight, that certainly had her worried, as my pregnancies were both fine, apart from giving birth at 37 and 35 weeks, I sailed through everything else, have tried telling her not to worry, as long as the heartbeat is fine and baby is moving.
Sqad, yes, had my op 7th June, all seems fine, just bored stupid because I can't really do anything, scan came back clear, so no further treatment needed, just regular checks. Thank you for asking.

I would imagine that if they were very concerned it would have been immediate scan and not in next 48 hours. My daughter went for a routine appointment (in Chicago) and they said not enough fluid around baby and she was taken immediately for a caesarean. I think things move very swiftly if the baby is in any danger.
TBH, the measurements that they do with the tape measure are very imprecise. One the MW did it 3 times at one appt and came up with 3 different answers for me. The scan will reveal more. If the baby really has stopped growing, it's of an age where survival is probable. My baby was boen at 30 weeks last year, She spent some time n special care, and obviously it was a very worrying time, but she is currently a very loud 14 month old
