Free Upgrade

Anyone know what the chances are of my partner and I getting a free upgrade to business class with Singapore airlines on Christmas Eve,travelling from Manchester to Singapore.

I have never heard of anybody obtaining a free upgrade from SIA. It is pretty generally acknowledged that SIA are not known for free upgrades at the best of times and your chances on Christmas Eve would therefore be extremely remote. However, your request at the booking in desk should raise sufficient hilarity from the staff to get your holiday off to a rousing start!!

On a more serious note, your best bet is to get there early and try to be first in the queue and volunteer for an exit row seat (assuming you are fit enough to open an emergency hatch). At least then you will get a bit more legroom, but as for an upgrade... forget it.

I am a PPS Club member on SQ and never get upgraded (Business to First). Solitaire members (the highest rank) don't get upgraded if there is room in the class they booked in. However, SQ economy has good entertainment and decent wine.

Just to put the record straight, I asked this question on behalf of someone else!but many thanks for the amusing --and probably accurate --answers.I admit it's probably wishful thinking and if it does happen there will probably cash involved but we shall see!! You don't get 'ought for nought these days !
