With Jack Straw publicly condemming the Mohammed cartoons and the British Press not publishing them does anyone else think a dangerous precedent is being set?? Is it the first step to British women having to cover their faces in public to avoid offending Muslims??

Fascists come in all political religious and cultural clothing from white supremacist's to the islamic preachers of hate they have more in common than they think, i consider myself to be left of the centre of british politics but i find common ground with conservatives of finding these zealots and their tedious anti western rantings chilling and now fairly predictable. their prophet would probably be equally appalled at the use of his name to committ all sorts of evil acts of murder, torture and mayhem just as jesus christ would be with the christian fundamentalist hatemongers and their intolerence.

This country has always caricatured the religious, the political, the royal, the famous etc etc.

I agree with an earlier post asking why those respectable muslims don't make a stand. Quite frankly, if they feel so strongly they should publicly distance themselves from the fanatics. If they don't then they will unfortunately all get tarred with the same brush...

Such a huge cult that is Islam, which requires complete servility, will always struggle to fit-in in secular societies. If they hate the west so much find somewhere else to settle...unless they have an agenda here ofcourse.

To those who have asked for Muslims to dennounce the fanatics:

"On Saturday, Asghar Bukhari, chairman of the Muslim Public Affairs Committee, said the demonstration in London on Friday should have been stopped by police because the group had been advocating violence.

He said the protesters "did not represent British Muslims".

Mr Bukhari told the BBC News website: "The placards and chants were disgraceful and disgusting, Muslims do not feel that way.

"I condemn them without reservation, these people are less representative of Muslims than the BNP are of the British people."

Taji Mustafa, a spokesman for Hizb ut-Tahir, told BBC's Sunday AM that the posters, images shown by the television programme, had featured in Friday's protests which his group had "nothing to do with".

"It had absolutely nothing to do with us, and we condemned those - they are not acceptable," he said.



But still, keep reading the tabloids, I am sure they will reinforce your beliefs.

Yes I heard these couple of denouncements. But sadly, due to human nature and the tolerance of the British public wearing thin, I wonder if they will be enough....

I feel we are entering a very dangerous time with our free speach being removed. The Danes rightly or wrongly published some inflamitory cartoons in their press. However as a catholic i read and enjoyed the da vince code which could be classed in the same context as these cartoons. After all it is slandering a religon that people hold dear. Following along this route i know of many priests who have read and enjoyed this novel. They have not called on their congregation to rise up and protest let alone call for dan browns head on a plate. I feel that in the UK we are very liberal in our veiws and this is a good thing because we are able to express ourselves. However what we hold dear is being destroyed by an amoral minnority. it is at this point as a population we must stand up and say enough is enough, otherwise we will end up in a stituation where the BNP will become far to strong to stop and that is not what this country needs.

Can you name a single Muslim member of Parliament, actor or athlete? Muslims make up a tiny portion of the total population of the UK... and only a small number oif them are extremists. I bet if you counted they'd be far outnumbered by Christian extremists. This is exactly what Hitler and the Nazis said about the Jews in Germany - that they'd be in charge soon. I don't think you are a racist - just scarily misinformed.
