How To Reduce A Video File Size Using Windows 7?

I have a MOV video file I wish to send by e-mail which is too large. How do I reduce the file size using Windows 7?

I've not searched the Net for a while but I do know one can get applications that will split a large files into numerous parts and merge the numerous parts back into one again, which would allow you to send it in bits.

However maybe the easiest solution would be to use one of the sites that allow you to upload the large file temporarily and you then e-mail the link and password to the recipient who can log in and download it.

Failing those options I suspect there must be free video editing software out there that you could use. Not something I've done for myself though so I can't recommend a particular application. You'd need to do a web search.
