Religions
Does anyone agree that the major religions need a re-think as they are not taking mankind where it needs to go i.e- peace on earth? The problem, the way I see it,is that they cause divisions between people, polarities and as has been seen recently on the news even hatred with angry muslims calling for infidels to be beheaded. Its the "I am right and everyone else is wrong" mentality.
Then you have Catholism which makes you feel bad about having "impure" thoughts about the opposite sex when these are natural and God given. Then they wonder why people grow up socially inept!
I won't even go into the nonsense sprouted by the jehovah's witnesses and american southern baptists!
Here is a mantra for all religions to consider-"Mine is not the better way, just a different way".

If, for example, you've mentioned Northern Ireland, religion is used there just as a disguise, The Ulstermen, are not just Protestants, they are descended from Scots who were settled there by the English, and now claim Loyalist status. I won't go further into this, you can get all the info you want by googling.
The real problem is us humans, there's always an element who want what others have got, who want to impose their will on others.
Communism is a good non religious arguement, apart from the ex communist states, take a look at North Korea.
I, like others on this site, have served with H.M.A.F, and seen at first hand religious practices around the world, but in my book, religion is a way for the few to manipulate and rule the many.
"If we go back to the beginning, we shall find that ignorance and fear created the gods; that fancy, enthusiasm or deceit adorned them; that weakness worships them; that credulity preserves them and that custom, respect and tyranny support them in order to make the blindness of men serve their own interests. If the ignorance of nature gave birth to gods, the knowledge of nature is calculated to destroy them."
Pierre Henri Thiery, the Baron D'Holbach (1723-1789) Author of "The System of Nature", regarded as the "Athiest's Bible"
i'm thinking of starting a super religion.
it would involve taking all the best bits of all the different faiths and putting them together.
this would have two effects,
firstly as everyboby would have the same faith there would be no more religeous wars.( they'd find something else to fight about)
secondly, imagine xmas, easter, diwali, eid, and all the good festivals from all the religions kept in. all the ones like lent, ramadan etc left out.there would be many more public holidays with no guilt.
i can't see any flaws in this. (and hopefully not offended to many people.)
