One is very near me not sure about the others - my friend will be here for tea. She'll know - she is always out and about and hears these things. Suicide is rampant here in NI and we don't understand why cos there has been lots of help out there. So another one down and the extended families wondering why cos usually there is no note.
I think the only reason people don't do it is because they must have this thought in the back on their head saying one of two things; Do I really want to do this?, Will people miss me?
Take it from someone who has been at the crossroads more than once, twice this week. Selfish as it may seem but I fully understand the people that do it
Sad that people feel that there is nothing worth living for however that said I would like to think that if I was on the road to becoming very geriatric and odds on I would be in frail care I would take that the cocktail downed with a good champagne.
And so many seem utterly inexplicable. There was one successful, healthy, attorney in Arizona who bought a gun. The assistant how much ammunition, how many 'shells', he needed and he replied "About half a dozen". He had to buy a box of fifty. He only needed one, because he went to a quiet spot and shot himself with it. And so many are like that, not always so obviously premeditated.
Years ago I met and made friends with a lovely lady whilst in hospital whose husband suffered a mental illness and eventually committed suicide. Her so called friends at the catholic church she attended told her he would be forever damned. I gave her the verse :- Blessed are the children who
come unto me. In my mind he was child-like because he was ill. Also Jesus
understood. some churches make up their own rules. I wouldn't go anywhere where forgiveness was not preached and acted out.
Yes, Cupid, I have recounted the story of my sister-in-law on here before, but, in brief, my father-in-law made a large donation to the Catholic church which then promptly reversed its decision that she was a suicide and couldn't be buried in consecrated ground. The fact that she'd been found dead in a car full of carbon monoxide fumes, and with a pipe from the exhaust, didn't affect this final decision in the slightest! Some churches are flexible.
The sad thing is that if the reason comes to light is often something that seems relatively minor to those of us left behind, though obviously not to the people concerned. A few years ago there was a cluster locally of maybe nine or ten of both sexes and all ages including the 15 year old daughter of a man I worked with and with at least half of them no reason was ever discovered.
This is very sad..Conne and such a waste. Sometimes people are so down they dont know how to tell people they have a problem.
One easter near where I live the firebrigade was called at about 3am. The property of a 36 year old woman on fire (we were all evacuated).
It was very sad. She had a serious drink problem seemingly so people avoided her and she really needed somebody to help her. Someone saw her going home with two bottles of wine in the afternoon but didn't talk to her and she had her electric cut off for a long time seemingly and had lit candles to keep warm. Fire service came to talk to us all - Sadly the batteries were out of the smoke alarm so dont know if intentional or not and normally electrics would then kick it in but as they had been cut off didn't so it was longer before alarm went off in other places so it was too late. Its a tough station sometimes.
I help run a Friday night youth club in our church and a classmate of some of our youth hanged himself a few weeks ago because of bullying. The effect it had on those in the group was devastating and will live with us all, I think, long into the future.
It did, however, have a positive side, inasmuch it changed the attitudes towards bullying of one or two youngsters when they saw the results of it.
My aunty committed suicide in 1996. Her daughter has recently been diagnosed with post traumatic stress.
I know that people who kill themselves are in a really really dark place, they are neither brave or selfish, I just wish that they knew that their death can destroy life.
