Computer Suddenly Unstable Hp Pavilion G Series Windows 7

First noticed when using XL. The mouse scroller increased / decreased text size instead of scrolling.
Replaced mouse - no difference

Attempting to rename a file produced small vertical rectanglur boxes to appear instead of the input text and the only way to get rid of them is Undo

Mailbox also seems to have 'issues'.

I have the same problem from time to time. It disappears after a re-start. My Pavilion g series plays other strange tricks - like losing the My Documents folder and sending all the files to Documents.
