I'm watching The Rolling Stones At Glastonbury. Am I right in thinking that guitars are no longer connected to amps by leads and if so how does this work.

Some guitarists - Angus Young from AC/DC for example, still use leads, it is a matter of choice.

Some guitarists reckon that the signal is not as pure if wireless, but with modern technology, it's unlikely that the audience would notice the difference.

You sure about that andy? Angus charges all over the place - he can't possibly use a lead can he?

Yes, it's usually a choice between radio (VHF) or Bluetooth, with a small transmitter that slips onto the belt of your trousers. Both systems are good - the Bluetooth ones generally more compact - and the only price you pay is frequent battery replacement; the best you tend to get from batteries is about 8 hours but simply for the sake of discipline I replace mine before every gig. It's just a routine that guarantees I won't be caught out.

Just checked Ludwig - and I stand corrected - looks like he is wireless these days!
