Iron Tablets

I have been taking 210mg iron tablet twice a day and the Dr and the packet says it turns your poo black.

Why is that? and How does it do that?

Because most iron tablets are enteric coated ( don't irritate th e stomach) and it is the dye in this coating that colours the stools black or at least dark green.

Sytron which is liquid iron does the same as does most iron preps I read of...so not sure it is a coating as there is no coating on liquid iron. ;-))
