Why do people laugh at me when I tell them I use this OS? Is it really that bad? I am getting another pc next week running XP-Are there a lot of differences?
HAHAHA!! No seriously I can't think of any reason why....I have used every version of Woedows and this one is no worse (or any better for that matter) than any of the others....Once you get used to XP though you'll find it hard to go back to anything else....The initial difference is it's like being put into teletubbie land as everything is a lot more colourful and the icons are a lot more detailed you can from there on tailor most things to suit.
But don't let the big, bold chunky coloured style put you off. You can make it look just like Millennium (which I had a lot of love for), but it's a whole heap more stable. I got it in January, and can't envision ever going back to another OS. XP ROOLZ! Ahem, sorry. Got carried away there. Must be spending too much time on the 'net
Well, if you have alot of programs to run, XP is never a good option!!! It may have cool graphics but it is painfully slow....I see why they laugh - Millenium is very creaky and wobbly and always crashes. I recommend 98 2nd edition. Its alot better than the original 98.
Or even better, Why not buy lindows or linux? It never crashes, but there are new things to get used to.
An interesting argument phinn: Windows 98SE is better than ME? I found ME to be much better than 98 but there you go. What is beyond argument is they are both bad compared to Windows 2000/XP. Older systems struggle with XP as it is resource hungry but new machines have such fast processors and high RAM that you never notice it. I would definitely service pack the XP (although if it is new it already should be) and as has been said, you can always revert to the Windows classic look. The best bit is that it runs on NTFS so you can mess about with compression, disk quotas, NTFS permissions and encryption.
