Transfer To Flashdrive
3 Answers
Good Morning: please forgive this really basic question; I have a document on my computer - Windows 7 - and I want to transfer it to a flash drive so that someone else can use it and amend it. There are lots of instructions on Google but I can't follow them. I have 'saved as', the flashdrive is in place and I have been able to see what other documents are on it; how do I add mine?
Many thanks for your help Worried Greeneyes

First display the icon for the document in Windows Explorer or other window.
Now RIGHT click on the document icon and there should be an option "Send To".
On the list of places to Send To should be the Flash Drive.
Click on that and the document should copied to the flash drive.
Note: Data Manipulation (moving files around) in Windows is a very useful skill to have.
There are often many ways of moving files around in Windows and two other useful ones are "Drag and Drop" and "Copy and Paste".
So if you can display one window showing the document and another window showing the flash drive you can "drag" the file from one window to the other. This will copy it (or move it if you select that).
Or you can select the document, then select the "Copy" option from the menu, then click in the second window, then select Paste from the menu and the document will be copied from one window to the other.
It is a good idea to "practice" this sort of thing so you gradually get the hang of it. Do it with non-important files (create some dummy files).
So practice creating folders, moving files, copying files and so on.
All good experience.

If you've already got the document saved, this is how I'd do it:
Insert flash drive.
Display the folder where the document is stored (e.g. 'My Documents'.
Make the window fit only part of the screen. (Click on the overlapping rectangles in the to right hand corner and then drag the edges of the window if needed).
Double-click on 'My Computer' (or 'Computer', depending upon which version of Windows you're using).
Double-click on the icon for the flash drive, to open a window displaying its contents.
If needed, also resize that window, so that you've got the two windows displayed side by side.
Click-and-drag the file from one window to another.
Job done.
--------------------------- OR ----------------------------
Insert the flash drive.
Open the document.
Go to File > Save As
Click on the downward-pointing arrowhead, at the right of the 'Save in' box.
Double-click on the icon for the flash drive.
Click 'Save'
