I want to purchase something from an American website. The price of this item is $150.

If the value of the USD drops will this item become cheaper for me once converted to British pounds?

Yes, if the dollar drops. Be aware however that if you buy stuff on-line from the US, you are likely to find yourself paying Customs charges when the parcel enters the country. They contact you to tell you how much to pay before they will deliver the package.
yes, if the value of the dollar drops against the pound. Currencies do complicated dances, though: it might drop against the euro but rise against the pound.

Either way, that's good advice from boxtops.
US seems to be on the up at the moment.
It won't change by more than a £1 or two either way though over a period of a few days
