Has she given you any reason why you cannot see the baby? Were you still 'seeing' each other or living together before the birth? You don't say how old either of you are. There are lots of different issues here dependent on circumstances. Your best bet is to speak to citizens advice, or if you want some more advice here can you put some more details? whatever you decide, stay calm, be the voice of reason and negotiate as trying to force the issue won't work as she will be wanting to concentrate on being a new mum which isn't easy....

You need to get parental rights. because you are not married you have no rights whatsoever. if she wants to leave the country with your child she can. if she wants someone to adopt your shild she can do it.

you phone your local court or registry office and tell them you would like a form to get parental responsibility for your child. they will send a form to you in a matter of days you fill it in and send it back to them. its quite a simple form. Unless your ex has a very very good reason for you not being able to get parental responsibility they will grant you PR. then you are in exactly the same position as your ex. if you want to take her to court you can and you are equals where as at the moment you dont have a say in anything. you couldnt even sign a consent form if your child needed an operation.

she can claim child support from you and she can claim in arrears too.

get the form and get your rights. its really quite easy. and she will know you are serious.

good luck !!

well the law was passed on december 2003 that unmarried couples are given parental rights now. But anytime before hand its a different story my boyfriend was in the same boat. As for child support they will hunt you down like a dog as they did him and they will get arrears out you too they are a nightmare but if you exchange any money to your baby's mum make sure you get her to sign a reciept sounds very stupid but you can show the child support they take it into account
