Mcaphee Security Suite
My free trial of the above runs out next week and I have been offered exactly the same free from my bank for one year and further renewals for £29, which seems an offer I can't refuse. My question is do I uninstall before I take up the offer, or do McAphee do both together? TIA -rosy

I have had the mcafee free from the bank for a few years now but it has allowed in a Trojan. not sure though whether it is meant to stop Trojans getting in or whether that's another kind of thing you have to buy as well
If you want a free one, try Microsoft Security Essentials,

Just uninstall the old one and install the new one, update the definitions database and run a first time scan.
As Mosaic states only run one antis virus programme or they end up accusing each other and you getting loads of false positives.
If your worried about getting infected whilst your uninstalling/installing then just disconnect your internet, although I think that's a bit of overkill ☺☺

Thank you all for your replies and very helpful advice. I had MSE and Malwarebytes on my (now defunct) desktop pc and found them both very good, but had to remember to enable them to do scans and McAfee seems to be doing all that quietly in the background, which greatly appeals to me, (for the free year anyway) as I have a memory like a sieve :0) I am running windows 7 Methyl-does that make a difference then? Thank you again for taking the time to reply -rosy
