Hiya, seems a it of a boring question for a Sunday, however, please would you have a look at this diet that the Nurse at our surgery has given me. It is the British Heart Foundation diet.
I have been eating what it says for the last 5 weeks but to no avail. I've lost 2 pounds only. I can't understand what is going wrong as she wanted me to lose 5 pounds, anyway, here goes:
Per day:
Fruit and veg - 7 portions
Bread, rice, etc - 7 portions
Milk and dairy - 2 portions
Meat, fish, etc - 2 portions
Spreading fat, oils, etc - 3 portions
High fat, alcohol and sugar, etc -

There is way too much emphasis on processed/white carbs in current government guidelines. If you want carbs-eat more leafy greens and other lower carb veg. Definitely ditch the bread, rice and pasta.
If you really want to educate yourself, get a copy of Wheatbelly...written by an american cardiologist who found that cutting down on processed carbs greatly improved the health of his patients.

Update on progress:
Saw the Dietician and I've lost 2lbs in 4 weeks. Not as much as I had hoped, however, we've discovered that my fruit and veg intake was 90% fruit and 10% veg/salad. Going to swap to 50/50 so that should help. Also, reducing amount of carbs but upping the protein intake. More exercise needed as well. I look forward to the results.
Surprisingly, the Dietician said that a number of people had lost a lot of weight on the 5/2 diet. I didn't think she would advocate this diet but she says it is worth a try. Apparently, it re-educates the stomach into accepting smaller amounts of calories/food after the 2 separate days of only eating 500 kcals. Not sure if I it would suit me though but I'll give it some thought.
Hope all is well with everyone!
