Why not give them good old fashioned food (meat and two veg) washed down with pure fruit juice or a smoothie (or just fruit for dessert).

if you go to a doctor or chemist you can get meal replacement drinks which are high in energy and are designed for elderly or just as a pick me up for people who have been ill and unable to eat much.

They do milk varieties and fruit varieties and both come in many colours. They come in handy cartons so are easy to take out and about.

if you want to get extra energy into an elderly person and aren't keen on using manufactured supplements it might be a good idea to supplement certain foods with other foods, for example potato mashed with lots of cream and butter. i'm afraid i haven't got any drinks ideas though.
