The officer in charge of the cells lost his mother in the same crash so presumably let him through - no questions. Then edited CCTV to delete 'killers' arrival.

Surely the fact that he had lost his Mother in the crash would have been known and he would not have had that duty?

he had a different surname but yes I agree. At the time of the crash, he would have told his colleagues about his mum's death. No way he should have been on duty. I also hated the way the script shoved in personal details of all the leading actors - reformed drunk loses daughter, divorced dad screws up access, lawyer persuaded by virtual stranger to go to mothers graveside, police boss seeking IVF - too much!
