What happens is this - they don;t charge you a 'fee', what they do is take out an insurance policy, which you pay for, and which covers them if they loose the case - so they can't actually loose. If they loose, the policy pays their fees, if they win, yoiu pay it, so they cannot loose, but you can.
Far better - find a reputable solicitor and pay for a consultation and find out if your case is viable. If your solicitor thinks you can win, go for it, and take the risk, if not, at least you have limited losses.
I wouldn't risk the 'no win no fee' boys - two of them have jumped in with claims against me as passengers on a bus that wrote my car off. My solicitor just laughed, and said she'll see them in court - except they won't go, they'll cut and run, and use the policies to get their fees.
