I think I've finished this puzzle but not totally sure ..... I think I must have either made a mistake or missed the point. I have 2 of the 7 additional letters out of order and this makes for an unsatisfactory ending. Any other EVers feeling the same? Clues and grid fill easier than of late or perhaps they just suited my mind set.

Ahh - you weren't there when I started typing steven53.
I haven't looked at this again lately but at this point I am not even sure what 10D has to be - Quinapalus tosses up two possibilities, neither of which seems to make much sense to me at the moment. Seems like an awfully confusing endgame for such an easy gridfill!
Ah, got it. Very simple when you twig it.
Good evening All. Definately trailing behind this week, have completed the grid but am (as usual) veryu confused about the 9 letter word and positioning thereof. I know what ATOL is but cannot see any connections.....my brain hurts!
The irony is that the answer is staring us all right in the face!

Enjoyed the finish to this one, though am missing 30d.
Well, I give up. If someone will email me at [email protected] and put me out of my misery, I'm sure I'll spend the rest of the evening dope-slapping myself in the forehead.
You're not alone, dd, keep staring at it waiting for that 'light dawns' moment except it hasn't yet.
might well be joining you, dr b, but will give it until tomorrow. Off to Cornwall on the 24th so must get it done or give up by then.
Done dr b.

devadolly - if you break down the title it helps, and Jim has given a huge hint.

I've been put out of my misery by Jim360, Slaney.
ack! can someone resend? I was being clever (or not) and using one of those disposable email addresses, not realizing that it deletes all emails after an hour! Not my week, it seems. this time try bbetker (at) yahoo.com - thanks again.
OK dr b - redone.
d'oh! Thanks.
Help slaney please! I've stared until I'm blue in the face and despite Jim's heavy hint I've got nowhere. [email protected]
Email sent to you devadolly.
Unless I am missing the point here (vis Stephen53) I think the letters ought to be in sequence. Otherwise 23d could have more than one solution. If 22a was a word with an indefinite article then it could be in sequence. I am not sure if I am completely off beam here.
Would anyone care to explain which of my two options is the last letter is the last one in 22 across and why not the other one? [email protected]
