What Hard Is The Operation For Stomach Cancer ?

My father has recently been diagnosed with stomach cancer he will soon start chemo and after have an op to remove part or all of his stomach can any1 tell me how tuff this op is? And what the recovery after the op is like obviously iv been speaking to his consultant but would like to here from some1 weather it be nurse doctor friends or family or some1 who has been affected themselves what this procedure is like?
