Can someone please oblige with answers for 21 and 26 Across. Also 14 Down and 22 Down. I know the solution is Martin Luther King - but is his FULL name required? And do "steps" all lead diagonally/same direction? THIS IS MY VERY FIRST 'ANSWER BANK' QUESTION!

You need to give all the relevant information if you are going to get useful information from this site. You have omitted to mention that the wordplay in some clues leads to the answer with letters that contribute to the key name (as you correctly say, MARTIN LUTHER KING). So, with that name running stepwise downwards, and the final G being below rather than to the right of the N, 26 across contributes a T to the name, and thus the wordplay gives G for good in OS for ordinary seaman, the complete solution being TOGS.
I hope this helps.

Thanks to everyone. I had managed to decipher the "steps" aspect meanwhile. Just double-checking this would make 14 Down "Carting off".
How nice that we can help one another in his way. I cannot provide an answer as to why it has taken me 8 years to post a question. Silly pride, i suppose! Thank you all once again. If someone could just verify the "carting off" solution, i would be grateful.
