.... and I've scraped someone's car - totaly my fault, rubbish parking. It's not really bad, the damage to my own is worse. Anyway they weren't around so I left my name/number/email on their windscreen. What's the next step, obviously they'll contact me - what do I do then? I've been insured with the same ins co for 15 yrs and never made a claim ever. I have my no-claims protected and fully comp - will I have an excess to pay?

Look at the paperwork that came with your vehicle insurance certificate - it'll list any excesses payable.
you will definitely will have an excess
No she won't Connie - I have no excess at all on one of my motor policies - it's just a case of reading the schedule (as heathfield so rightly has said).
... which will say whether there is an excess or not. Every policy is different.
Depends on the damage. If it's minor it might be cheaper to sort it out privately if they are willing.
Yes as it is your fault you will have to pay the excess as stated in the insurance.
Get as much info off the other driver whn they call you then contact your insurance company and give them all the detail.then leave them to do their work.
do as ummmm says if you can.
You will not have an excess on the "Third Party" element of your policy so if it is only Third Party damage that your insurers are paying out for there will be nothing to pay.

You MAY have an excess on the "Accidental damage to own vehicle" part of your policy (see ansers above) and if you do you will have to meet this yourself.
Personnally I'd get it fixed and pay myself rather than claim.
If you don't use your insurance, you will have two repairs to pay for - and it will be much more than you imagine.
If you use your insurance, your premium will be increased next time - even though NCD is protected.
You can't win!
I am sorry to be pedantic New Judge, but i am afraid that nowadays a large number of Insurers apply the excess over all sections, rather than the A.D. section only.
If the other party is willing get them to get a couple of quotes and send you them, and then you can decide whether to go through your insurance or not. They would want to know but for a simple scrape they can go whistle. Of course if the quotes are too high you can go through the insurance anyway.

Oh do i detect blood on wigs here ?

Thanks for the replies folks. I've washed my car and it really doesn't look bad I could get away with not claiming for my vehicle. Theirs was roughly a 3" scrape to the wheel arch and about a one inch diameter scrape on the back bumper - no dents that I could see. Not a lot of damage so I hope they don't try and milk it. Wish I'd been thinking clearly, I could have taken a photo of the damage in case they do.
I certainly hope not Peter......!!
i would do nothing until they contact you.
some thing similar happened to me and they said they'd just wipe it out with t-cut and that it wasn't worth bothering insurance companies and raising your premiums for.
