We are going to France for a holiday, is there a system that I can use to track my child by their phone if they go missing?

I have seen something where you can locate someone using a text message. If you type a search into google for mobile location or something similar, I am sure that you will find this. You may have to mess around with keywords. Basically, it works by you texting the person's number then they respond to the text. You can then go online I think to track their location. Can't remember how it works precisely but remember thinking that it was an invasion of privacy, until I realised the the textee had to respond to the texter (if you see what I mean) in order for the "permission" for the tracking to be valid.
