ford galaxy 1996 petrol 2.0i. why do i have rain water leaking through the ventilation system into the passenger footwell

9/10 rain causing water into the footwell is caused by a blocked drainage tube. Check the air intake at the top of the bonnet and see if any leaves/debris is in there blocking the bottom.
If its not just purely rain causing this, it could be blocked air conditioning drain tubes. Ususally you have to look under the car for the drainage tubes and clean the muck out from there.

Bearer of possibly bad news.

I had this problem with a 97 R and another mother at school with an S reg sad to report that it was a failed body seam in both instances I went as far as having all tubes removed and/or flushed when that failed they had to use some ultra violet staining liquid and a black light to diagnose. Cost 200 plus quid as a lot of labour was involved . We opted for silicone sealing which was a semi- permanent fix. I left news paper in the footwell to collect the water and changed as soon as it was wet during diagnosis period.

Most likely place it is coming from is the sunroof and running down the pillars onto the floor.

Check the drain holes are not blocked in the well around the sunroof when it is open, gently pour some water into the well and see if it goes down the drain holes, if not they are blocked.

either gently use a plastic coated curtain wire to clear them or compressed air to blow them clear.
