Can anyone tell me how I can remove this cookie. I delete it via Spybot, or even manually from the cookie folder (and with restore disabled), and within seconds it's back. This even happens when not connected to the internet.

I stupidly brought the Winfixer program after getting nagged by it when I was having problems . Recently the Microsoft AntiSpyware discovered the program and advised me to delete it, which it did for me. But I still have this cookie. Help please.....

Thanks

Youve done exceactly the same as me ! I was getting nagged that there was 1558 whatever errors detected on my PC now my spywhere said exacly the same, and when i press remove, it keeps coming up with the same advice to remove it every day !

What a waste of 30 odd quid !

There is possibly a program running in the background that is doing this. If you click Start.... Run, then type "msconfig" (without the quotes) in the box that appears and click OK. A page appears with some tabs and the last one is "Startup". Click the Startup tab and make a mug of tea.

Go through the startup items and determine what you can turn off and prevent from running at startup. The command column will give you an idea as to what the program might be. If something is quite cryptic, do a google search and the first couple of results will tell you what it is.

All you really need to startup when your PC boots is antivirus and firewall software. You may want other stuff to startup as well, like MSN Messenger or Skype. It's not necessary for some software to check for an update every day, so uncheck all that kind of rubbish. This should make your PC quicker to start and also get rid of your Winfixer problem. Let us know how it goes.
If none of the above solutions work download HijackThis . This scans your registry for any oddities and can advise which may need removal. WARNING!!! Altering your registry can seriously mess with your machine, so be sure that you only delete nasties or check with someone who knows their stuff before deleting anything.
You could alway's try Ccleaner free from http://www.ccleaner.com it will scan you pc and safely get rid of all the crap.........

Thanks for all your answers

Nice to know I wasn't the only person who wasted money on Winfixer.

I installed HijackThis, and found two Winfixer entries. I selected both but only one was removed (wnfxrhlp). This however fixed the Winfixer Cookie problem. Spybot hasn't found it for two days now......

The remaining entry in HKML... Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\OXZMSEPL\WinFixerScannerInstall[1].exe" -nag/ just won't go even after trying the CCLEANER.

It doesn't seem to be doing anything and I can't see it running in MSCONFIG startup, so will see how it goes.

Thanks again for your replies and advice.
