what comics did you read as a kid, depending on age could be interesting1 I will start with; warlord, roy of the rovers please add your favourities while gness get me another drink!!
Diana, Judy, Mandy, Bunty, Schoolfriend later on Mirabelle, Romeo, Jackie
and Valentine. Also read Victor and Hornet and those commando comics - a lad in my class used to lend them to me. I "borrowed" my brothers Beano, Dandy, Beezer and Topper - one of mum's friends had a newsagent who gave them to us - brother and I were very fond of her
I loved comics....my mother wouldn't let me buy them so I scrounged them off the kids in the street and read them under the blankets with the lamp from my Dad's bike....til the night he'd changed shifts.
I could hear him ranting in the kitchen so I tucked the lamp between my legs under my nightie and pretended to be asleep.
He charged into my bedroom and threw back the covers. If I had switched off the lamp there wouldn't have been the glow from between my legs which told him where his lamp was...:-(
Beano, Beezer. Never liked Dandy; in our village you were Beano or Dandy, but not both! The Eagle? I took an instant dislike to that because all the nerdy boys in school read it.
Not a comic, but did anyone read the Boys' Own Paper? It was wonderful if you were the kind of boy who wanted to make his own transistor radio or know how to go rock climbing with boots and crampons made at home! In the past it was more adventurous; my father, as a boy, once made explosive from a formula in the BOP, and blew a hole in the road with it. And old men say modern children are not sensible!
