Bp Question

Had a letter this morning, the contents of which gave me quite a shock.
For the last 2 and a bit hours, I have felt panicky. Just took my BP, and it's 206/98, pulse running at 93 bpm. Is this something I ought to get attention for?

Yes.......do not assume that it was caused by the contents of the letter.
You clearly have a BP machine, then take your BP morning, afternoon and evening over the weekend and see what transpires.
if it is maintained as above normal.........then see your GP.

hiya....and do not smoke, drink hot liquids/alcohol or take your bp while feeling unrested.....you need to feel as chilled out as possible for your readings as you can inform your gp they were taken completely 'at rest'. yes it is worrying, but ring up first thing monday for an emergency appointment. if you feel unwell at all today or tomorrow, seek further advice immediately. best wishes, lisa x
You can get blips. I had mine done as usual before seeing my rheumatology consultant a month or so back and it was 157/56 or something weird! I remarked on it at the time it looked odd/wrong as my blood pressure is usually pretty spot on to the lower side of things. Had a letter asking me to come in and re-test and it's been fine each time since.
Probably either a random result or a combination of rushing from work (rushing around busy city via two buses with my stick!) and coffee while I was waiting.
As said above though, keep and eye on it.

ferlew....I have had an ongoing problem with my BP. My GP has taken me off medication on the understanding I monitored it myself.
The past few weeks I have been under quite severe duress and my BP has shot up and remained high.
I bit the proverbial bullet today after yet another reading of 210/110 and hightailed it to the Docs.
I am so glad I did, she was so reassuring , she said she had had similar major fluctations during her career during stressful times and has prescribed me Bedranol SR 80mg capsules, she also told me *not* to take a reading for several days.
I'd recommend going to your GP and not leaving it like I did for several weeks, waiting on a stroke or heart attack, which likely wasn't going to happen. I feel so much better now...funny that !! :)
Best wishes.

Thanks Kylesmum, I was on 2 BP meds, but had to stop the Nicorandol because it gave me elephant ankles, and I could not get my shoes on. OHG had to cut them.
I often wonder if some of the meds add to the problem, (Not criticising Dr's)
I do know, however, that I am ultra sensitive some groups of medications.
