Just had an email from BT saying they will be closing my account. There are links to go to, if I want to keep it going, which I do of course. Has anyone else experienced this?

Does the email address you by your real name (not email address), for example, does it say Dear Customer or Dear Ms Lyn Brown? If it does address you by actual name it may be genuine.
Do not click on any links in the email, go to the usual BT login page you would use instead for any queries.

I think there is a scam where they get you to log on and give your details. Don't reply to it. Have you got an account with BT where you can log on to check?
I keep getting e-mails from various banks and building societies that I do not have accounts with, so I know for sure they are spam.

Are you talking about your BT email address? If it is set up via BT Yahoo, then you need to sign in via BTYahoo once every six months, otherwise they will close your account.

I have never heard of BT emailing this. I bet if you go to a link from it, there's a request that you remind them of your bank details ! Cynical, aren't I?

As Boo Boo suggests, just ignore it tonight and call them in the morning for clarification and to see if it is indeed a scam e-mail, which it sounds like it is.

BT would call you if there was a problem on the account.

As others have said, don't go through the links in the email. Log on to your normal account in the normal way and go from there.

I suspect (but I might be wrong) that the OP is talking about their email. I have a BT email address (ie [email protected]). This is also servicable via Yahoo. When I click on my desktop icon for mail, it takes me directly to my email. I don`t sign in. The alternative method of accessing my email (via the web) is to go onto the BTYahoo website and input username and password. I only do this when I am away and am using my phone. A while ago, I had a letter from BT stating that if I don`t input my username and password once in every 6 months, my account will be cancelled. Maybe this is the case with the problem that the OP is experiencing.

I think this is the same email I received and I think it is genuine. I wrote to BT broadband (not using a link in the email) and they confirmed they are changing the way their email service is operated.

You could be right 237sj I have a spare BT email address that isn't used much I seem to recall I got a message on my BT e-mail site (not to my regular e-mail address which isn't BT), telling me to use it or lose it within 6 months. It's still better to check on the BT site itself.

As it was not addressed to me by name ( just said Hello) I am treating it as phishing. My B-I-law thinks it is rubbish too and he has shown me how to go into BT the correct way.
