Interesting question I have also pondered. I'm glad I'm not booked to go as I'd worry irrationally even though it's like saying don't go to Cornwall because they're rioting in Glasgow!
Even without the current problems there, I would not consider going. My parents went there once during 'peaceful' times and were hounded by beggars wherever they went, and as soon as they walked out of their hotel (which, by the way, was the only place they could have an alcoholic drink). So, not for me thanks.
yes I would consider going - I was there May 8 - 15th
just before the unrest - and it seemed OK
Hague the Foreign Sec who is paid to know has said that Hurghada and other red sea resorts are OK.
Nile Cruise would be OK but you would be just about the only person on the boat. May 2013 we were running at a third to half capacity with lots (around 80%) of the cruise boats mothballed.
They had they said enough booking to run two cruises in July -
two a week ? no two buring the whole of that month
We went last November. Our guide said to us that we had to encourage people to visit because without the income from tourism the economy would collapse and then the extremists would get into power, because people tend to turn to extremism when things aren't going well. And this is exactly what's happening.
