US$125.10 currently equals 79.95

MP3 players (without a radio) are normally only taxed at 2%. (The iPod touch offers functions which most MP3 players don't have, so the rate might be slightly different). So, assuming the 2% rate, that makes the duty 1.60.

However, import duty is disregarded if it comes to less than 7, so that means that the actual duty you'll pay is nil.

VAT is charged on all items worth more than 22 (which, irrespective of the actual current rate, HMRC regards as equivalent to 18). So you'll pay 17.5% of 79.95 = 13.99. (Theoretically, you could also be charged VAT on the amount paid by the consignor for carriage, even though you got 'free' shipping, but it's probably unlikely).

Then you're charged a customs examination fee of 8. That brings the total payment to 21.99.

If you choose China air freight service, http://www.mychinafreight.com/air-freight.html the customs fees and taxes might be concluded in the overall shipping costs, which accordingly reduces expenditure.
I wonder you supplier has explained it clearly or not ahead.
Sometimes the free shipping owes to the cost of the item itself has contained the fee.
As for custom fee and tax, it might cost you a little expensive, since you decide to pay it personally.
If you choose China courier service, you might avoid the extra trouble.
