fazed

what does the word "fazed" mean. I`ve just heard it on TV but can`t find it in the dictionary or Google. thanks

Phased means to have carried out something in gradual stages, as in; "The fare increase was phased in over six months" meaning that the fares did not go up all at once but in bits over a period.

There is a fictitious space futuristic Sci-fi weapon called a Phasor (or Phaser if you're British). It is supposed to scramble the molecules and cause anything from a mild headache to total destruction. If you had been at the receiving end of such a thing you could be said to have been "phased". I think it was a Roddenberry invention and it rhymmes so easily with "Dazed"

In the U.S., the word "fazed" means disturbing (or not) the composure of an individual, as in, "He wasn't fazed by the accusations"... It is used as a colloquialism...

it is diffrent from phased which is as Hippy says, something carried out in stages.

faze is an informal verb (fazes, fazing, fazed) and means disturbed or disconcerted.
