goldfish has black spots is this normal ?

my daughters goldfish has suddenly started forming black spots around its head . is this normal or is it on its last legs (so to speak).

With black spots, do you mean blackish blemished that look like spots?

It is always hard to have a stab at trying to diagnose an ailment without seeing the pet. You should be aware however, that male goldfish get pustules (pimples) on their gill covers when they are in breeding condition. It is not that far from Spring ha ha. Have another close look and if they are 'pimples' and are only on the gill covers, I wouldn't worry to much - get him a girlfriend, he is randy.
