it's a very big place, and accommodation ranges from fleapits to palaces (I've tried both, and the palaces are better). It will really depend on where you want to go, how you want to get around, and how much you want to spend.
I been three times and did it independently but the place to arrange flights and trains etc is in Wembley Park and featured in Lonely Planet will get back to you on name its something like STN travel but will look it up. You must have a Lonely Planet with you as trains etc unreliable = never get out of a cab whilst your stuff is inside if they tell you it broken down as I know someone who did that to push and driver drove off - never take food sweets drink off anyone as could be drugged this does happen - its also worth not staying in the cheapest places as it cheap to stay in decent places. You have to go to Agra Varanassi - Jaipur Udaipur - Delhi Mombai and Goa in my view!
where in India ? also what type of budget, large, middle of the road or student ? also when, certain resorts are Nov to April and some are all year round.
OK,will have to be July, for 4 adults, not student budget, not luxury either! Never been there, but my son would like to go, don't know too much about resorts, thinking general overview rather than somewhere specfic.
We've only travelled as package holiday both North ie Agra Delhi, Jaipur , enjoyed it all. our favourite area is Goa however its a bit more commercialised now. Are you sure about July- this is the middle of the Monsoon season Goa would be out of the question other than the locals it closes down. Normal season is November to March.
yes, that is one of the less good months; temperatures of about a million degrees and air consisting of solid water. (Okay, not that bad all the time everywhere, but the cooler drier months are generally much better.)
I definitely would not go in July as it is monsoon season as said earlier. I have been told Goa is commercial now - last time i was there was 96 so sure it has changed. The company in Wembley was SDL enterprises and number was 89033411 you have to bear in mind this was few years ago i used them but lonely planet also recommended them they can help with itinery and also book trains from here they were brilliant
Thanks all. I was looking for a special holiday, but it will have to be July, so I think we can rule out India. Thanks for your help and happy new year to you all.
