If The Map Of The Middle East Could Be Redrawn On Sectarian Lines Would It Make The Area More Peaceful?

I think I heard the conflict in Syria described as a sectarian civil war. If Sunni and Shiite were seperated and lived in countries where they made up the great majority of the population civil wars would be less likely.

In fact, even if they made up the entire population they would begin to argue as soon as a few of them wanted something different to the rest. Compromise is not in the vocabulary of many of those resident in the Middle East and planting democracy among them is a lost cause.
