Travelling TO the UK with your UK passport should be no problem.

Travelling back should also be no problem - Spain allegedly accepts UK passports up to a year out of date. Your airline may not know this and not let you fly - or take so long to confirm it that the flight leaves without you. Best renew while you are in the UK.

I don't think your residencia card is of any use as a travel document, but ICBW. Presumably it's not evidence of Spanish nationality? If not, I can't see what use it is.

You can renew your passport when there is 6 months left on it. The 6 months will be added to your new passport. Contact your local passport office.
There is no way on earth you will be able to get into the UK (or out again if you manage to get waved through) with a Spanish Residencia card... you cant even get into Gibraltar with one! Well actually what the British copper said was that he could let us in but the Guardia Civil who police the incoming passengers to Spain would not let us back through again.
Madrid is pretty quick at the moment renewing passports if you need it done. www.ukinspain.com/english/ will give you the info if you need it.
