You do not 'register' exposure but if you develop symptoms and the illness is diagnosed as asbestos related you can put in a claim.
The problem is the symptoms may not appear for up to 50 years after the exposure. I worked in an asbestos cement plant for 18 years so this is on my mind as well, no symptoms yet but you never know.

and one exposure can lead to the pot of gold [and death]
the two go together.
One documented case of mesothelioma in a woman and the exposure was, in conclusion, that she had been washing her husbands overalls where they were using....
for the above reason, if you have been exposed, then you should document it
but on the plus side - plaques contain asbestos fibres and mesothelioma is only caused by asbestos
and the compensation is statutory innit ? - perhaps not if there are lawyers chasing the cases.
The bad asbestos is crocidolite I think - long fibre - asbestos goes around in various sorts (not interconvertible).
other than that - dont know much about it

yes you are advised to register the exposure somewhere so that in the future, if needed, there is evidence of it happening - which is essential if you need to claim etc, because it could be many years later and the people and company involved are long gone so there is no witnesses or evidence of anything happening
i have told the doctor, but they just register it happened, not when, where how and with what company etc.
i have spoken to the main company now and they are investigating the incident
i have had nothing at all from the employer - it is a multinational company which is why i am beginning to doubt the guy responsible did in fact report it at all ... surely there is a procedure to follow for this ... he is 60 now so by the time anything happens he will likely be long dead
i am in a union, so will register with them, but my boyfriend and his friend are not, so I want to make sure for their future that it is documented officially somewhere.

I worked in an asbestos cement plant for 18 years and I never heard of a national register of people who had been exposed. You need to tell your doctor so that it is on your medical records and they know to check if you develop symptoms that could be related to the exposure.
The solicitors who do the claims work can check if you worked in a risk area even if the company has closed years ago as said even the families of workers are at risk as workers could bring asbestos dust home on their clothes.

I have been Googling and there is no national register of asbestos exposure in the UK.
There is one in Australia where asbestos was mined and there are more victims than in the UK, possibly that is what you have heard about.
The procedure here is that if you ( or your family) were exposed and you develop symptoms then you contact a lawyer over the possibility of a claim.
The lawyers I mentioned offer an information service for anyone who thinks they may need to claim at some time in the future , you could ring them with your questions.
