Sweet Williams

I have grown Sweet Williams for the first time and they have been really great! They are the tall variety not the dwarf, and have now finished flowering. I had dead headed them 2 weeks ago but today I noticed they are sprouting again in the leaf axils. Shall I just leave the plants in over Winter and will they flower again from where I cut the heads off, should I cut them right down almost to ground level or should I pull them right up and set some seed ready for plants next year.

They are Biennials which means sow this year to flower next year.

If they flower again just let them be for the time being and sow some for next year

Thanks both. I know they are bi annuals but I just wondered if they would grow again yet another year as they are sprouting again. I am going to sow some more anyway as they are lovely flowers and take no looking after.

You never know they might just come again, maybe you could protect them from frost and wait and see what pops up again in the Spring.

They may well come back again, but they will be old and tired so may not flower so well.

Think you might be disappointed next year - I would re-seed.
