Picking Scabs.....and Eating Them!

I was chatting with a neighbour earlier and her little girl was meticulously picking away at a scab until it was free and promptly ate it!

My friend was horrified and admonished her little girl telling her that it's not nice to pick and eat scabs. Typical of a small child the retort was 'why?'.

Replies along the lines of nice little girls don't eat their scabs etc just resulted in more retorts of 'why?'.

So apart from being anti-social why is it wrong to eat scabs and what justification can be given to a small child.

There was a bloke who drank in our pub that used to pick scabs on his head and eat them. He was a professor!!

(and a friend of jackthehats!!)
There's no accounting for taste. :-)
I think all kids eat scabs at some time, we had a kid at school who had a big scab on his knee and kept it in an empty matchbox to show the world. we used to have a teacher at grammar school too,who used to pick her nose in class and roll it in a tiny ball and either eat it or flick it at the class we used to call her "pick it flick it", I think the two worst things are people who pick their nose whilst waiting in their car for the traffic lights to change or people who blow their nose and then open the tissue/hanky and examine it. ughh.
