Why dont users rate the answers to questions?

On a similar theme to answerbok's 'Why is that', shown below, why dont users rate the answers to their questions? It is polite and shows an interest in the answer. It also encourages users to participate in the right way that I think AB would like to see.

I've noticed sft42 has neglected to rate anyones answer on the infamous record-breakers thread...

You must have a valid email account to be able to rate answers. So those people registering with bogus email accounts are unable to rate.

Good answer scissorman, thank you.That would account for a percentage of them, but I use AB every day now and I see bonafide users who don't seem to want to rate answers.

I tend to rate questions i am looking for a factual answer from and not the discussion types to prevent showing any apparent bias to one side of the debate or another.

well spotted scissorman, maybe that's why 'Animals beginning with 'N', burdalls gravy, and are dale n nell etc don't respond.. they wandered in from google and used a throwaway email. The plot thinnens :-)

On a similar thread as sft42, i rate replies that answer the question that is asked. i don't rate discussions, sarcastic answers or people asking why i want to know this. I also do not rate identical duplicate answers which have not appeared at the same time. Sometimes someone will answer a question one day and a couple of days later someone else will give an identical answer which i think is a bit pointless

And then there are occasions when it would seem rude to give someone less credit than someone else, so instead of moving down the list giving everyone three stars, which is meaningless, none are given.
