Thanks for asking - it is at the moment in the hands of an engineer who thought he could fix it but has decided he can't. He will give it back to me in a couple of weeks, and then I can check the maker, model, etc, and ring the specialists.

If you check that web site I gave you, you'll find all kinds of information including specialists who restore them. If the item has any financial and/or emotional value to it, I'd be very careful who you hand it to. If possible you should take pictures of any identifying marks, serial numbers, names, etc before you hand it over. I'm "into" antique clocks and watches, and have heard of some very unfortunate stories when people have just blithely handed over their heirloom or cherished piece to any Tom, Dick, or Jane. Anyway, good luck with it.
